Guwahati, Nov 27: The 12th International Tourism Mart (ITM) kicked off in Kaziranga with a resounding message: Northeast India is ready to claim its spot on the global tourism map.
Union Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat lauded the region’s rich cultural diversity, natural wealth, and unique heritage, calling the ITM a prime opportunity to showcase Northeast India’s extraordinary allure.
“This event brings global attention to the Northeast’s cuisine, crafts, and biodiversity,” said Shekhawat, emphasizing the growing national importance of the region. Hosting the ITM in Kaziranga, coinciding with the park’s 50th anniversary as a national park, highlights the Northeast’s rising stature. The park’s expansion from 400 sq. km to 1,300 sq. km over the last decade underscores this growth.
Spotlight on Growth & Collaboration
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma highlighted the transformative role of tourism, not just as an industry but as a catalyst for cultural exchange, ecological preservation, and economic development. “This mart offers global influencers and international students an immersive experience into the region’s natural beauty and cultural richness,” he said.
Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu underscored the ITM’s role in fostering unity among the Northeastern states. “By connecting stakeholders and promoting partnerships, we’re positioning Northeast India as a cohesive, irresistible destination for global travelers,” Khandu stated.
Diverse Experiences on Display
The four-day event (Nov 26-29) is packed with B2B meetings, panel discussions on youth entrepreneurship, innovation, and wildlife conservation, cultural evenings, curated food demonstrations, and technical visits to iconic sites like the Kaziranga National Park and Charaideo Moidams.
A Coffee Table Book titled “Guwahati and Around,” published by Assam Tourism Development Corporation, was also launched, offering a visual and cultural deep dive into the city and its surroundings.

This year’s ITM witnessed record international participation with representatives from 30 countries, including tour operators, influencers, and students from across Europe, Southeast Asia, and Africa. Notable attendees included 15 international influencers, 24 tour operators, and 20 international students, alongside 46 domestic buyers and 101 domestic sellers.
