IUM Tura organises career orientation programme for students

Shillong, Oct 11: The Placement and Career Counselling Cell, ICFAI University Meghalaya (IUM) , Tura campus, in collaboration with its Marketing Department organised a programme under the name ‘Pathway Camp’ on Tuesday.

The programme is designed to guide and direct the students on their career goals, career choices and career paths.

The speakers at the programme were Atul Chandrakant Kulkarni, Member of the Board of Governors, IIM Shillong. He spoke about business opportunities in north east, saying that tourism is a great business opportunity and that homestays will benefit locals thereby kick-starting their businesses.

Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills, Swapnil Tembe, was also present and spoke on the ground work for careers in public sectors. He spoke about the positive attitude towards the civil services exams, stressed on general studies and gave emphasis on “passion into profession”.

Prof. Abhigyan Bhattacharjee, in-charge of Placement and Career Counselling Cell, NEHU, Tura Campus, spoke about employability skills. He said that being competent and having computer skills is very important for this generation and also stated that soft skills are a big part of getting oneself employed.

Dr. Brenda D Marak, Asst Professor, Placement Coordinator and Career Counsellor, IUM Tura, talked about Career Planning, emphasising that a career implies a person’s progress in life. Career Planning is a strategy used by an individual to achieve their goals. She said that understanding one’s skills, area of interest and passion is imperative for career planning and career development.
