Agartala, Dec 17: The Indian Youth Congress (IYC) staged a protest in Agartala on Tuesday, demanding the immediate reinstatement of a historic photograph depicting Pakistan’s surrender to India during the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War. The photograph was allegedly removed from the Indian Army’s headquarters.
Protesters, holding placards and copies of the iconic photograph, chanted slogans calling for the restoration of the image. One placard read, “Modi Ji Stop Rewriting History, Restore 1971 Legacy.”
IYC Tripura state president Neelkamal Saha condemned the removal, stating, “This is part of a conspiracy to prevent the youth from learning the truth. We demand the photograph be restored to its rightful place.”
The protest followed Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s statement in the Lok Sabha on Monday during Zero Hour. She claimed the photograph was removed from Army headquarters on December 16, the same day as Vijay Diwas, which commemorates India’s victory over Pakistan and the liberation of Bangladesh in 1971.
Priyanka Gandhi’s remarks have sparked widespread reactions, with the Congress party demanding that the photo be returned to its original location.
