Nongpoh, Nov 5: The Joint Action Committee (JAC) comprising of the headmen from different villages of Umden area, the HYC, RBYDSO and the Umden area Local Taxi Drivers and Owners Association, has demanded the state government to immediately sanction the repairing work for Nongpoh – Umden – Sonapur road, which has been in pathetic condition and neglected for years now.
The demand for sanctioning of the new blacktop road from Umden to Sonapur road came after the JAC conducted an inspection of the road along with the PWD Nongpoh sub-division officers on Saturday.
Speaking to media after the inspection, Kerbok Mallai, said the JAC has been formed to pressure the state government to fulfil its promise for sanctioning a new road from Nongpoh to Umden to Sonapur in Assam.
He also said that local residents of over hundred villages under Umden area have been facing hardships due to the very bad condition of the road which has been neglected for so many years.
The JAC, after the inspection, strongly demanded the state government to pay heed to the genuine demands at the earliest for the betterment of the local people of Umden area in Ri Bhoi District. Failure to heed to the demand will result in drastic steps, warned Mallai.
However, the SDO of PWD Sub-Division, Nongpoh, has assured to allot repairing work for 18 kilometres of stretch from Nongpoh to Umden.
