Shillong, Dec 28: In a collaborative effort between Seiñraij Ialong, the Tourism Department, and the Arts and Culture Department of the state government, MLA Santamary Shylla inaugurated the two-day Jaiñtia Hills Winter Festival at Madan Lyngkieñ, Ialong, West Jaiñtia Hills on Thursday.
The programme witnessed the presence of SD Shylla, the Tourism Officer of West and East Jaiñtia Hills, and Pyrkhat Shylla, the President of Seiñraij Ialong, among others.
The festival, themed ‘Harmony Across Borders,’ is dedicated to promoting tourism in the Jaiñtia Hills region of Meghalaya, aiming to showcase the cultural richness and attract visitors to the picturesque state.
SD Shylla shared with the audience that the Ialong Tourist Village hosted 40,000 visitors from across the country in 2022. Expressing optimism, he anticipated that the ongoing Jaiñtia Hills Winter Festival would serve as a catalyst to attract even more tourists to the region, promoting its cultural and scenic allure.
Santamary Shylla lauded the Seiñraij Ialong and the Tourism Department for working together to promote tourism.
She also hoped that the festival will be a success and will grow in the upcoming years and urged the locals to maintain cleanliness around the tourist spots.
During the two day festival, artists from across Meghalaya, the Northeast and singer J-Sol from Britain will be performing for the audience.
