Jengjal hosts its first music festival

Tura, Dec 14: On the 11th of December 2021, Jengjal had its first “Street Mini Music Festival,” which was organised by the newly founded Jengjal Melomaniacs, a six-member team. Jengjal MDC Grahambell A. Sangma supported the celebration.Melomaniac means ‘music lover’, thus the team planned the event for music fans. The festival’s purpose was to introduce young people to music and to raise the spirit of music in the community, as there are many young people who are passionate about music and talented but lack a platform to demonstrate their abilities.

A singing competition was organised during the event, which was divided into two categories: local, in which only Jengjal residents competed, and the other was open to all.

The singing competition included children as young as 5-year-old and adults as old as 50-year-old. People came from all across the Garo Hills, as well as from beyond the state, participated in the event. The winners received prizes as well as musical instruments. Professional music degree holders served as judges for the competition.After the conclusion of the competitive events, the festival featured performances by the renowned band ‘Da Suraka’ and famous Christmas singer Marcus D. Shira.
