Jowai, Feb 22: The Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) has recorded 85.58 percent voter turnout after repoll was conducted peacefully in four polling stations of the two constituencies in East Jaintia Hills on Saturday.
Elections to the 58 district council constituencies, 29 each in KHADC and JHADC concluded on Friday (February 21).
Under the JHADC, Sumer constituency recorded the highest voter turnout at 91.46 percent while Jowai North has the lowest voter turnout at 75.28 percent.
Maskut polling station under Moodymmai-Nongkhroh constituency also recorded the highest voter turnout at 99.52percent and lowest turnout was at Khaddum polling station under Saipung-Nongkhlieh constituency with just 51.34 percent.
The repoll was conducted peacefully amid heavy security deployment, officials said.
Wapung Skur A and Wapung Skur polling stations under Musniang-Rangad witnessed a good turnout of voters at 85.12 percent and 83.33 percent respectively.
The voter turnout at Bataw A and Bataw B under Bataw-Lakadong constituency is at 80.58 percent and 77.43 percent respectively.
Repoll was ordered after unidentified mobs forcefully entered into the four polling stations and damaged the electronic voting machines (EVMs) on Friday.
In the KHADC, Nongspung-Sohiong constituency in East Khasi Hills recorded the highest voting percentage at 86.09 percent while Nongthymmai constituency in Ri Bhoi district recorded the lowest at 59.75 percent.
The polling station with the highest voter turnout is Maw-Ah under Langkyrdem-Laitkroh at 96.99 percent and the polling station with the lowest voter turnout is Madanrting Thembasuk Rum A under Nongthymmai at 4.49%.
Out of 272 candidates, 158 of them including 12 women are in the fray from 29 constituencies of KHADC and 114 candidates including 7 women from 29 constituencies of JHADC.
A total of 13,08,818 voters in both KHADC and JHADC will exercise their franchise which include 6,32,347 male and 6,76,467 female.

The KHADC has a total of 9,96,518 voters out of which 4,81,268 male and 5,15,247 female.

The JHADC however has lesser voters with a total of 3,12,300 voters which include 1,51,079 male and 1,61,220 female.
Meanwhile, counting of polls will be held on February 24.
