HYC president appears before investigation officer at Sadar Police Station

Shillong, May 28: President of Hynniewtrep Youth Council Roy Kupar Synrem said the HYC is committed in its fight against drug menace despite people indulging in drug trafficking are finding ways and means to ensure their business is not at all disturbed.

Synrem made the statement after appearing before the investigation officer (IO) at Sadar police station in connection with the case registered against him and two other leaders for ‘unlawful’ eviction drive against alleged illegal settlers at Lum Survey on May 23.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Synrem said, “We have nothing to say against the police department but we along with the people have seen the condition of the place at Lum Survey. We have done our duty and today I have come to appear before the Sadar police station because we have decided that we will cooperate with the investigation on the matter.”

He said another two leaders – vice president Donboklang Kharlyngdoh and assistant general secretary Isaac Basaiawmoit – will also appear before the IO of the case in the coming days.

Stating that the HYC will continue to work for the cause of the indigenous community, Synrem said, “Cases registered against us is just part of the journey but we have full faith and confidence that the people of Hynniewtrep are by our side and that we have reasons to fear.”

Urging the people to extend full support to the HYC in its fight to eradicate the drug menace from the society, the president said, “We also know that the amount of money generated from the selling and supplying of drugs is huge and we also understand that the people indulged in such illegal activities will do what it takes to get us out of their way so that their business is not disturbed.”
