Shillong, March 28: The Jaintia National Council (JNC), Khliehriat Circle, on Friday requested the intervention of the District Medical & Health Officer (DM&HO), East Jaintia Hills, Dr D Shylla, into the non-functional of the operation theatre and clinical laboratory cum blood transfusion services in the Khliehriat civil hospital.
In a statement, JNC president Shanborlang Bamon said that there is an urgent need to make the operation theatre and clinical laboratory cum blood transfusion services functional in the interest of the people of the district.
“As you are aware, a well-equipped and operational operation theatre is essential for handling emergency surgical cases and other medical procedures. Unfortunately, the current non-functional state of the operation theatre has led to difficulties in providing timely surgical interventions, forcing patients to seek treatment in distant healthcare facilities. This situation poses a serious risk, especially in emergency cases where immediate surgical intervention is required,” he said.
“The absence of such facilities often delays critical diagnostic services and blood transfusions, thereby affecting patient care and increasing the burden on nearby hospitals. A well-functioning clinical laboratory and blood bank would significantly improve healthcare services and save many lives by ensuring timely availability of blood for patients in need,” Bamon added.
