Jowai, Sept 16: A joint inspection of Myntdu River was organised by the “Khooid Yaka Wah Myntdu”, an organisation fighting for the protection of Myntdu River, along with the Office of the Executive Engineer, PHE Jowai (Electrical Division) after the report of the water samples were received from the office of the SDO (PHE) Electrical Sub- Division Rymbai. The Joint Inspection was carried along the banks of the river in the presence of the Officer Bearers of the Organisation and the Executive Engineer, PHE Jowai (Electrical) Division, Paul Synnah, the Executive Engineer of Water Resources Jowai, A.S Mukhim amongst others.Following the inspection, Synnah informed that the river is affected especially during the monsoon because rain water washes away the soil, sand and other wastes from Jowai town.
He further informed that during the monsoon season he receives complaints regarding the poor water quality and that this year as soon as the rains started, he asked his department to stop pumping water in order to allow the water to be filtered naturally.
The Chairman of Khooid Yaka Wah Myntdu, K.L. Pariat urged upon the Deputy Commissioner of West Jaintia Hills to take up the matter seriously in order to ensure smooth supply of potable water to the residents of Jowai Town even during the winter season.
