Jowai, Dec 11: More than 50 differently-abled people from across the West Jaintia Hills district participated in a one-day registration cum counselling camp jointly organized by the National Career Service Centre for Differently-Abled (NCSC-DA), which is under the Ministry of Labour and Employment (DGE), Government of India on Wednesday.
The camp, jointly organized by the Society for Urban and Rural Empowerment (SURE) and the NCSC-DA, Shillong, was held from 11 AM onwards in the presence of the parents and caretakers of the differently-able people.
Speaking on the occasion, D. Biswas, Rehabilitation Officer, NCSC-DA, briefed the audience about the various schemes and support provided by both the state and central governments. The meeting, held at H.K. Singh Memorial School, was chaired by Dr. H.H. Mohrmen, Secretary, SURE who also helped in the translation.
During the question-and-answer session, several differently-abled participants shared their thoughts and queries. Notable contributors included Bisharlang Tariang, Gladliness Shylla, Krishna Phawa, Heiioobitmitre Dhar, and Durka Sari.
Kelvin Suting, a visually impaired participant, expressed that he had learned a lot from the camp. Bisharlang Tariang mentioned that he plans to avail himself of the opportunities provided by the government to enhance the business he has already started. Ngalong Sukhlain, who has no lower limbs but works as a mobile phone repair mechanic, said he will seek assistance from the organization to start his own mobile phone repair unit.
