Shillong, Sep 10: Jowai MLA, Shylla inaugurated the suspension foot bridge across the Myntdu River at Ialong village, West Jaiñtia Hills in the presence of the EM of JHADC, Phasmon Dkhar as the guest of honour.
During the inauguration ceremony presided over by Masan War, who is the secretary of the village, it was informed that the bridge will help farmers cross the river during monsoons.
The cost of laying the bridge is Rs. 65 lakh, and it crosses the river at Umdalong, which is a fish sanctuary. Money for its construction was borne by the Thadlaskein C&RD Block, West Jaiñtia Hills, and the Village Dorbar, and the works started on February 2, 2016, but got delayed due to the COVID pandemic.
Phasmon Dkhar congratulated the Waheh Chnong for being steadfast in following up with its construction and urged the villagers to take care of the bridge, which will soon be a tourist attraction.
As the Chief Guest, Wailadmiki Shylla applauded the Waheh Chnong and the Village Dorbar, which also contributed to the construction of the bridge.
He further informed that the Chief Minister and the Deputy Chief Minister have agreed to sanction Rs. 20 crore for the improvement and widening of the roads in the village, and very soon Ialong will be a model village.
Others who spoke during the function were Dr. Brightstar Langbang, BDO of Thadlaskein Block; F. Basan, the Project Director of DRDA; and T. Ram Phawa, the Waheh Chnong, amongst others.
