Jowai, Nov 15: The MLA of Jowai Constituency Wailadmiki Shylla on Tuesday inaugurated the Conservancy Truck Shed, JCB and Refuse Compactor of Jowai Municipal Board, in Jowai Municipal Board Premises in the presence of the West Jaintia Hills Deputy Commissioner, B.S. Sohliya, the Chairman Jaiñtia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) Dr. Sankey Shangpung, Chairman Jowai Municipal Board L. Lakiang and CEO Jowai Municipal Board B. Blah.
The Conservancy Truck Shed was constructed under Grant in Aid Capital Asset 2020-2021, the JCB and Refuse Compactor under 15th Finance Commission 2020-2021 and the CC Flooring under 14th Finance Commission 2020-2021, amounting to Rs. 1,13,00,000.
Shylla lauded the Jowai Municipal Board (JMB) for its exceptional services rendered especially during the pandemic. Mentioning the developmental works of the Government, he shared his views regarding further developmental works. Expressing that to keep Jowai town clean, bins have been purchased and distributed to households to make it easier to segregate the biodegradable from non-biodegradable waste, he urged the citizens of Jowai Town to work in collaboration with JMB.
Deputy Commissioner B.S. Sohliya shared his experience with Shillong Municipal Board when he was the Chief Executive Officer of SMB. He said waste management is not complicated; it is only about changing mindset and working collectively to achieve cleanliness. To reach the goal, he suggested that people need to start from home, urging people to reduce the amount of waste generated from their home as much as possible.
The Additional Deputy Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of Jowai Municipal Board, B. Blah, thanked the “Keep Jowai Town Clean” partners for working hand in hand with the Board in creating awareness amongst the public with regards to segregation of waste.
She mentioned that besides the waste collection the Jowai Municipal Board has undertaken many developmental works in different areas, informing that from the 14th Finance Commission the JMB has constructed Internal Road opposite DC office Wahnangbah Road- Iawmusiang, from the 15th Finance Commission Award Basic Grant – 24 numbers of work orders have been issued to different localities out of which 17 have been completed; work orders for 74 Individual Household Toilets (IHHL) have been issued, of which 57 have been completed.
The Office has also implemented the welfare scheme through DAY-NULM, by formation of SHG and receiving a revolving fund of Rs. 10,000 and subsequently other funds, a Self employment program where 30 beneficiaries have received loans within Rs. 2 lakhs each; support of street vendors through PM Svanidhi scheme to 30 beneficiaries for 1st installment loan at Rs, 10,000 each. She informed that the Jowai Municipal has also conducted awareness in all localities and in 17 schools. The awareness program will continue in schools, market areas and localities.
The Partners “Keep Jowai Town Clean” –Society for Urban and Rural Empowerment, Young Minds Collective (YMC), Bharat Scout and Guide, Synjuk ki Waheh Shnong were facilitated with mementos and individual certificates besides felicitating 17 participating schools where an awareness programme on segregation of wet and dry waste had been conducted.
Bins were also distributed to Educational Institutions viz. Schools and Colleges of Jowai Town.
