Jowai, Aug 28: The Jaiñtia Students Movement-Central Body (JSM) on saturday felicitated meritorious students with the 4th Academic Excellence Awards at the Yungwalieh (Community Hall) of Tpep Pale, Jowai where the Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui was the chief guest, in the presence of L.S. Lyngdoh, Joint Director of School Education & Literacy, West Jaiñtia Hills, office bearers and members of the JSM, amongst others.
The Excellence Awards were given to students securing more tham 80% in their SSLC, HSSLC and Graduation.
The President of the JSM Central Body, Lenning Star Rymbai reminded the gathering about the need to have a Government College in East Jaiñtia because the Kiang Nangbah Government College, Jowai is over crowded.
Education Minister Rymbui urged the students to work harder because there are many exams one has to appear in life and also wished them the best.
Pertaining to the JSM’s demand for a Government College in East Jaiñtia Hills, Rymbui said Jaintia Hills is very lucky because three colleges from the region are now under the People’s College Scheme benefiting Rs. 10 crore per anum.
He further stated that students should not only look at Kiang Nangbah College as the only educational institute but to explore other colleges situated in Jaiñtia Hills, informing that now there are 8 colleges in the region.
