Shillong, Feb 21: The voting process in the Rambrai-Jyrngam Constituency for the KHADC elections is proceeding smoothly, particularly in polling stations along the Assam-Meghalaya border.
Independent candidate Lurshai Kharbani described this election as historic for the Rambrai-Jyrngam Constituency, as the Garo community has come out in large numbers to vote. He noted that in previous KHADC elections, many Garo voters refrained from participating, feeling neglected compared to their Khasi counterparts. However, this time, they are voting with confidence, encouraged by the leadership of MLA R.G. Momin and Kharbani himself.
The constituency has a total of 16,000 Garo voters and 28,000 Khasi voters. Kharbani believes history will repeat itself, pointing out that in the last MDC elections, candidates backed by the area’s MLA emerged victorious.
MLA R.G. Momin is optimistic that voters will support Lurshai Kharbani, as they see his leadership as a means to accelerate development. Key issues such as road connectivity, education, and agriculture remain unaddressed, and supporters believe Kharbani’s victory would bring “double power” to push these long-pending projects forward.
