Shillong, Jan 27: Sitting NPP MDC from Laitumkhrah-Malki Fatin Joseph Lakadong on Monday filed his nomination papers for the upcoming elections to the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), to be held on February 21.
Lakadong, who is also an executive member (EM) was accompanied by his wife and cabinet minister Ampareen Lyngdoh and other party workers and supporters.
He filed his nomination before the returning officer (RO) at Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT), Mawlai-Mawiong.
Speaking to reporters, Lakadong said that he does not see any anti-incumbency factor working against his party, which is leading the executive committee (EC) in the KHADC.
“This is because we done so many things in the Council. We have passed so many Bills. We have worked together with the DCA department and the Governor. I would like to thank the Governor for have granted his assent on so many pending Bills.”
Unlike the JHADC and GHADC, the EM said, “Till now, in our KHADC, salary was never pending.”
Expressing confidence that the NPP will come back to power in KHADC, Lakadong said, “We have full faith that we will form the new EC.”
“All our sitting MDCs are doing their part and working so hard that everything goes well. They were there for the people so I have full faith that all our candidates will win,” he added.
Highligting other issues, Lakadong said that he would ensure that Khasi language be made compulsory in the primary education.
