Shillong, July 13: The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) will soon convene a special session for passing the Khasi Hills Autonomous District (Constitution of District Councils) (Amendment) Rules, 2024, seeking delimitation of constituencies for the upcoming District Council polls as per recommendation of the delimitation committee.
During the first day of the council’s summer session, the report of the delimitation committee for readjustment of the electorates in the 29 existing constituencies of the council was referred to the Select Committee for further fine tuning.
Speaking to reporters on Friday, KHADC chief Pyniaid Sing Syiem said, “The Select Committee will immediately sit and submit its report within two weeks time.”
“Once that is done, we will immediately convene the special session for passing the said Rules,” he added.
The members of the Select Committee include Chairman Deputy CEM in charge of Elaka, PN Syiem, Leader of the Opposition Titosstarwell Chyne, Jambor War, Bindo Lanong, Lambor Malngiang, Balajied Rani and the Secretary of the EC and the Member Secretary.
