KHADC unveils theme song and media campaign vehicle to boost Monolith Festival scheduled for Feb 22-24

Shillong, Feb 09: Deputy Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), PynshngaiƱ N Syiem on Friday released the theme song of the third edition of the Monolith Festival and a vehicle to promote the festival as part of media campaign.

The third edition of the Monolith Festival is slated to be held on February 22,23 and 24.

The KHADC along with the Department of Tourism in collaboration with the Meghalayan Age Limited is all set to revive the renowned ā€˜Monolith Festivalā€™, at the Khasi Heritage Village in Mawphlang.

Following a hiatus of 7 years, the previous Monolith Festival took place in October 2016 at the Mawphlang location. However, due to financial constraints, the Council had to temporarily halt the festival.

The Monolith Festival 2024 aims to rekindle the spotlight on the rich traditional culture and heritage of the Khasi tribes, said Syiem while launching the Theme Song and the Media Campaign Vehicle in the Council Hall, Shillong. Syiem added that the Council will prepare a Bill that will ensure the Festival is organised annually.

The primary objective of the KHADC in hosting the festival is to consolidate the diverse and rich traditional cultural heritage of the Khasis under a single platform for exhibition and celebration.

The festival provides a platform for Khasi community to come together, celebrate their unique identity, and share their traditions with the broader population, both locals and visitors. The festival typically features various cultural performances, traditional dances, music, arts and crafts exhibitions, and culinary delights that are intrinsic to Khasi culture.

PN Syiem also announced that individuals from Garo Hills and Jaintia Hills interested in setting up stalls for the Monolith Festival can contact their respective councils for further details.
