Shillong, Nov 9: KHADC chief Titosstar Well Chyne on Tuesday said the boundary committee of the Council is ready with its 15-page report on the land documents along the inter-state border with Assam. He said the report will be submitted to the government after finalising the same with the boundary committee.
Chyne informed that soon after taking over as CEM, he immediately constituted the boundary committee for collecting land documents from traditional heads of Himas having jurisdiction along the inter-state border.
“Most of them (traditional heads) have submitted the land documents to the boundary committee. The 15-page report is ready and I will soon call a meeting of the boundary committee to finalize the same. Accordingly, the report will be submitted to the Chief Minister for examination,” he said.
Chyne was replying to a motion moved by Congress MDC from Mawhati Charles Marngar on the role of the KHADC relating to the inter-state boundary dispute between Assam and Meghalaya.
On the opposition’s demand of not to accept the ‘give and take’ policy proposed by the two states for resolving the long pending boundary dispute, the CEM maintained that the stand of his executive committee is that talks should be based as per boundary of the Himas under the council’s jurisdiction.
“We want that the solution to resolve the issue should be based on historical facts as we cannot compromise on the boundary issue,” he said.
Marngar alleged that the Assam government is continuing with the construction of the transit camp at Khanapara in Ri Bhoi district.
He also demanded action against traditional heads who are involved in selling tribal lands to non-tribal. “Due such traditional heads, Assam is confidently encroaching into Meghalaya territory. Therefore, it is high time for the council to take stern action against such people,” the Mawhati MDC said.
On this, Chyne said that the KHADC had already written not only to Meghalaya authority but to the Assam government as well that they should immediately stop the construction work on the transit camp.
“We are following it up. We have also submitted a reminder recently,” he added.
The CEM further assured to take action against erring traditional heads which include the Syiem of Raid Marwet.
“This is very serious and the EC cannot just be a mere spectator. We will therefore summon him (Syiem of Raid Marwet) for seeking clarification as we will not allow any traditional heads to act in this manner,” he said.
Meanwhile, Chyne also informed that the council is taking steps to ensure that the police outpost at Langpih in West Khasi Hills is constructed at the earliest.
