Shillong, May 2: The local truck owners and drivers (407 and 909) formally formed the Local Truck Association (LTA) and appointed MLA and Cabinet Minister Hamletson Dohling as the Adviser on Sunday.

The Truck Owners and Drivers are from Mylliem, Laitkor, Smit, Mawngap, Mawmaram and Mawjrong. Ricky Pathaw was appointed as the Chairman, T Khari-ir as the President and Nicky Kurkalang as the General Secretary.

Ricky Pathaw, the Chairman, has said that the trucks drivers faced huge difficulties while loading and offloading of materials in the city. “We 909 (drivers) and 407 (owners) mostly load sand, pebbles and stones from Upper Shillong areas and on dropping off in the city face huge problems, some localities won’t allow us to enter during the day time, some won’t allow us to offload during the night… this is such a huge hindrance to us,” he expressed.

Dohling said that as the Adviser, who is also in the Cabinet, he will personally take up the matter with the authority and will soon communicate with the Shillong Traffic Police (STP) in finding the right solution in resolving the grievances of the association.
