Shillong, Dec 18: The eminent Khasi poet and literary icon, U ‘Myllung’ Soso Tham was remembered on his 81st death anniversary on Saturday.
The anniversary was commemorated by various organizations in different parts of Khasi and Jaiñtia Hills of the State as people went to lay wreaths at the bust of the legendary poet and paid their tribute.
The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) and the Federation of Khasi Jaiñtia and Garo People (FKJGP) also paid their tribute on the occasion. A function to commemorate the death anniversary of U Soso Tham was organized at the bust of the legendary poet at Soso Tham Auditorium and at NEHU Campus, Shillong.
Also today the Khasi Author’s Society in collaboration with the Department of Arts and Culture, Govt of Meghalaya organised a function in commemorating the late poet at the conference hall of St. Anthony’s College, Shillong.
Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh grace the occasion as the chief guest.
Awards are being awarded to students who secured the highest marks in Khasi and MIL of 2020-21 of different examinations conducted by the State board and the Central Board.
