SHILLONG, FEB 15: The Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) on Thursday staged a sit-in-protest against the state government’s failure to do away with the personal interview for government jobs falling under the Group B, C and D category.

Speaking to reporters, KHNAM working president Thomas Passah said that the Central government has done away with the personal interview for recruitment in Group B, C and D posts since 2016 and over 23 states in the country have implemented this decision in their respective states.

According to him, the Centre had maintained that by doing away with the personal interview for such categories of posts will ensure a transparent recruitment process free from any form of nepotism.

Passah informed that his party had written to the state government with a request to immediately implement the Centre’s decision in the job recruitments for such a category of posts.

“Unfortunately, till date the state government has failed to take any decision on this regard,” he said while adding that the matter was also raised by the Mookaiaw MLA Nujorki Sungoh in the floor of the House but the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma in his reply had only highlighted the merits and demerits of doing away with the personal interview.

Passah however said that the stand of the KHNAM is very clear, if the state government does away with the personal interview, it will no doubt increase the competitiveness among the job aspirants in the written examinations.
