Tura, Dec 19: The Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), in partnership with the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, West Garo Hills, and ICAR, KVK, West Garo Hills, has successfully conducted a Kisan Mela on Tuesday. The event, themed ‘Natural Farming – A Way Forward to Sustainable Agriculture,’ took place today at the Matchakolgre L.P. School Playground in New Tura.
The Kisan Mela featured a vibrant display and sale of an array of farmers’ produce and products, including fresh vegetables, processed food items, locally crafted wines, and various offerings from the Fisheries Department, Sericulture Department, College of Community Science, ICAR-KVK, District Horticulture Office, and other entrepreneurial ventures.
The event was graced by A. B. D. Shira, MCS, ADC, who served as the chief guest. Inaugurating the Kisan Mela, she toured the stalls, offering words of encouragement in her speech. She motivated the farmers to take advantage of the various government schemes available. The program also welcomed K. Sutnga, DOA & PD (incharge) ATMA, West Garo Hills; B. Hajong, Joint Director of Agriculture, West Garo Hills; and Dr. Tarun Kumar Das, Scientist ICAR Krishi Vigyan Kendra, WGH. Numerous farmers from different regions of the district attended the event, contributing to its success.
