Shillong, Oct 10: The Ka Sur Ka Bri u Hynniewtrep (KSKBH) has demanded a CBI inquiry into the death of Late Chesterfield Thangkhiew, the former leader of the Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC), and a memorandum to this effect was submitted to all the MLAs of the Khasi and Jaiñtia community.
Speaking to reporters, leader of KSKBH, Thomas Passah, said the findings of the commission are very clear that the members of the Tactical Team-I have used excessive force that led to the death of Thangkhiew.
“If the matter was handled in a proper manner, it would have not led to the death of Thangkhiew. The findings of the commission is very clear that the members of the Tactical Team-I are culpable of causing his death and, hence, they should be investigated, put into trial and prosecute those involved in this crime as per the law of the land,” he said.
He also reminded that earlier the Chief Minister had stated that unless the commission report is out, the government cannot proceed further. “Now that the report is out, we want to ask why the government is still silent and why is it still hesitating to take actions based on the report,” he pointed.
“Our demand now is simple, we want the government to immediately hand over the case to the CBI and file a charge sheet which will further take the matter to the required court,” he added.
Passah further stated that the remarks of the government in the report states that “an explanation call may be asked” but said that the only explanation to be made is only in the court of law. “It is unnecessary for the government to call for an explanation… we don’t want the government to act as a Judiciary in this matter,” he said.
