SHILLONG, JULY 17: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) on Sunday slammed the police department for taking quick action on alleged stray incidents in the city but failed to provide adequate protection to the people residing at the border.
“Just because one person was slapped at Jaiaw, the DGP immediately took the pain to visit the area. Why don’t they go to the border areas?” KSU chief Lambokstarwell Marngar said.
He was addressing at a function to pay tribute to U Tirot Sing Syiem on his 187th death anniversary.
Marngar also criticized the government for heavy security deployment at the venue and other parts of the city as if there was a protest.
“The government should send its students in uniform to the border,” he suggested.
Asking the government not to provoke by its actions, Marngar said, “Although we have no weapons but we don’t mind laying our lives for the survival of the indigenous community.”
He said there is an attempt to sabotage the activities of NGOs but “we will not bow down but will stick to our principles.”
Marngar also urged the NGOs not to allow anybody to misuse them.
