Shillong, March 31: The members of the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) on Sunday has shut down Banks in various areas of Shillong, alleging disregard for the Christian holy day of Easter Sunday.
While shutting down the banks, KSU members urged bank management to respect Christian holy days. The KSU also condemned the opening of banks and blamed the government for not respecting such holy days, citing that other Northeast states have announced holidays, even though it falls at the end of the financial year.
The banks shut down by KSU members on Sunday include those in Mawiong, Mawprem, Stand Jeep, Garikhana, Upper Shillong, Mawkhar, Khyndai Lad, Barik, Malki, Laitumkhrah, Nongmensong, and other areas.
