Shillong, Dec 3: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) has urged the Centre to address the current state of affairs in the North Eastern Institute of Ayurveda & Homoeopathy (NEIAH) by considering the immediate appointment of a new permanent director.
In a letter to the Secretary of Ministry of Ayush, the KSU-NEIAH Unit said NEIAH is running two colleges, therefore, the lack of a permanent Director in the Institution has hampered the smooth functioning of the institution.
“A permanent Director would not only provide consistent leadership and fostering an environment conducive to growth and overall welfare of the Institution. The Union request the appointment a permanent Director who aligns with the institution’s mission and values, someone capable of effectively managing our resources, staff, and external relations. By doing so it will ensure the continuity of progress and make informed, long-term decisions that will shape the future of the institution,” it said.
The union also emphasized the need for recruitment of permanent teaching faculty in the institution. It said appointing guest faculties doesn’t ease the concern and it further brings confusion regarding course material, limited access to guidance and mentorship, inadequate support for academic success and a negative impact on overall learning environment.
It reminded that “failure to appoint teaching faculty is in contravention with the National commission for Homoeopathy (NCH) and National Commission for Indian system of medicines (NCISM) norms on Minimum Standard Requirement for Medical Colleges (Homoeopathy and Ayurveda).”
The KSU also demanded the appointment of permanent principal in college of Homoeopathy, increment of outside posting duration for the internship programme of BHMS from 3 months to atleast 6 months and admission of second batch PGTs 2024-2025.
“Since the first batch have already completed their first PGTs academic year so the Union request for the continuation of the next admission and counselling so that there will not be any discontinuation of the upcoming batches,” it stated.
