Shillong, Oct 23: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) on Saturday detected and detained a car carrying 28kgs of Marijuana (ganja) while checking for the papers after the Union set up its own Inner Line Permit (ILP) and infiltration check gate at Sonapur in East Jaiñtia Hills district.
The union members detained one Hyundai i20 with the Assam registration (AS-11-U-7010), with three occupants. However, two of the occupants managed the give the slip to the union members and only the driver was caught and handed over to the police of Lumshnong police station and the ANTF team.
The KSU said it had to take action (of setting up ILP and infiltration check gate) after observing Bangladeshi immigrants entering the area over the past several months.
KSU main objective in setting the ILP check gate is to send a clear message to the union government to speed up with the ILP implementation under the BFR act. The union also demanded an Infiltration gate at Tongsen as early as possible.
However, later, the check gate of KSU was shut down by the police.
