Asked if any action will be taken against the alleged illegal encroachment by Assam in Lapangap village, Dhar said, “The committee will examine properly in what way (Assam is encroaching).”

According to him, the incident which had taken place was quite far away from Lapangap village.

He said that the regional committees have been constituted by both Assam and Meghalaya governments to examine and come up with acceptable solutions to both sides.

Dhar informed that the regional committees of the two States had recently conducted a joint visit to the area of difference.

“If necessary, we will again go for a joint inspection,” he said. He added that the two regional committees will soon submit their final reports to their respective chief ministers, who will then take a final call on the matter.

On the HYC’s demand to provide arms to people residing in the border, Dhar however said, “Who are they (HYC)? They are free to talk whatever they want but the government will do what is best for the people. Let them say whatever they want but we will do the right thing.”

Meanwhile, the deputy chief minister also urged the NGOs visiting the border areas not to create any problem that may lead to unnecessary law and order situation.

“Yes, NGOs can go to the border but they should ensure there is no law and order breakdown. We understand their sentiments but we request them not to create any problem,” he said.
