Shillong, June 30: The Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad K. Sangma has assured the family of late Samuel Sangma that he will fight for them to ensure that they get justice. Late Samuel Sangma was found hanging at his hotel room with bruise marks on his body, although his death is being reported as suicide.
“He (Conrad Sangma) is already with us. He is already fighting for us,” Shekhar Ganguly Marak, father of late Samuel Sangma, told Hub News on Wednesday.
The death of Rosy Sangma and Samuel Sangma, two Garos from Nagaland’s Dimapur, has sparked outrage in the North eastern region due to the mystery surrounding their deaths.
Rosy Sangma died in the ALFAA Hospital, Gurugram, Haryana on June 24, 2021 after consuming ice-cream given to her by hospital staff while she was in ICU. A viral video posted by Late Samuel Sangma had claimed that his aunt Late Rosy was recovering and suddenly died after eating the ice cream.
Reportedly, the hospital staff assaulted Samuel when he confronted them for giving ice-cream to his aunt in the ICU, and not allowing him to see her thereafter. Following which he was found hanging from ceiling of the hotel he was staying at Gurugram the next day.
Organisations across the region allege that Rosy’s death was due to gross medical negligence, while Samuel’s death is a murder.
Father of Samuel Sangma, Shekhar Ganguly Marak, who is also the president of Garo Union Dimapur Town Area under Nagaland Garo Tribal Council (NGTC), said the Meghalaya Chief Minister called him to assure that he will fight for the family and has already initiated work from his side.
Conrad has urged the family to file the FIR so that he can pursue the matter.
Marak said they are yet to file the FIR because they have not received the final post mortem report, based on which they plan to file the FIR.
“CM inquired if we have filed a FIR. I told him till now we have not filed an FIR because we are waiting for the Post mortem report. We have not got final post mortem report. We have got just a medical report,” he told Hub News on Wednesday from Dimapur.
Following the CM’s assurance, he said he will definitely file the FIR either by Wednesday evening or Thursday and forward a copy to the Meghalaya CM’s office for the latter to follow up and also give a copy to the Garo Council.
Marak has also expressed his gratitude to the Meghalaya CM and his office and other Garo organizations and other organizations from Assam. “I thank them for their pursuit of my case. Thanks to all the organizations from the North East that have come in our support,” he said.
