Legal action for spreading misinformation on vaccination

Shillong, June 29: Meghalaya Police have warned people of legal action against spreading of any misinformation regarding vaccination for Covid-19 through any medium.

In a press statement here on Tuesday, East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, S. Nongtnger said, “It is hereby advised to the general public not to spread any misinformation regarding vaccination through any medium. If any person/organization is found committing such act, legal action will be taken against them as per law.”

The order has been issued with reference to the Order of the High Court of Meghalaya vide order No. PIL. No. 6/2021 dated 23/06/2021 which states that “In the event, there is any attempt made by any person/organization to spread misinformation regarding the efficacy of vaccination amongst the people of this State, the concerned authority of the State will immediately step in and proceed against such person/organization in accordance with law.

The concerned authority of the State shall also bring such instances to the notice of this Court.”

Despite the government’s best efforts to vaccinate the people, many are not coming forward to take the vaccine against Covid-19 infection due to rumours of its side-effects.
