Dibrugarh, Mar 1: A full-grown leopard was spotted in CCTV camera footage of Dibrugarh Address Hotel in Dibrugarh on Saturday morning.
The CCTV camera footage captured the leopard from the Dibrugarh Address Hotel and jumped into the wall of another house.
The presence of the leopard in the locality has created panic the people.
The forest department has launched a search operation to capture and rescue the animal.
“We are informed about the presence of leopard in the Jibon Phukan Nagar locality of Dibrugarh. A team of forest personnel reached the spot to capture the animal. A tranquilizer team has reached the spot to tranquilize the animal,” said Dibrugarh Divisional Forest officer (DFO) B.V. Sandeep.
He added, “The leopard has come out from the nearby tea garden area in search of food. Due to darkness the tranquilizer team has been facing problem,”.
“Due to shrinking of forest covers and unavailability of food, leopards are frequently coming out from forest resulting in conflict with humans,” said an environmentalist.
