Tinsukia, June 26: In a significant judgment on Wednesday by Tinsukia District and Sessions court, six police personnel were awarded life imprisonment for beating up one person to death 11 years ago.
Tinsukia District and Sessions Judge Dipankar Bora sentenced the six policemen to life term under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code.
According to reports, the incident took place on October 7, 2013, when a person named Ajit Sonowal was beaten at the Ambikapur market in Sadiya.
He was sent to Assam Medical College and Hospital in Dibrugarh, where he succumbed to his injuries.
His father filed an FIR in Sadiya police station.
The charge sheet was filed, and the trial began in the Tinsukia District and Sessions Court.
The court, considering the evidence, witness testimonies, and the arguments presented by government advocate Ashok Chaudhary, found the six police personnel guilty.
