Shillong, March 20: Minister in Charge of Power James Sangma has assured that within two days load shedding will be discontinued.
“We assure the public and consumers that load shedding will be discontinued in the next 48 hours,” Sangma tweeted.
Stating that on the 16th of March 2021, the North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Ltd. (NEEPCO) issued a notice for the regulation of power supply to the Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation Ltd (MePDCL), the Power Minister said, “Government of Meghalaya has been working hard to look into the matter and today we have resolved the issue. Payment has been credited to NEEPCO, however, due to procedural issues, NEEPCO is unable to cancel the regulation notice immediately.”
“ We understand and empathise with the students who are preparing for their examinations and we regret the inconvenience caused to the public in general,” he added.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Friday said It is unlikely for the North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Ltd (NEEPCO) to regulate the power supply to the state since all the issues and concerns that NEEPCO had with the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) have been resolved.
“I have called the meeting at my level and have discussed the issue. We have resolved most of the issues, and we are sure it (load shedding) will not happen,” Sangma said.
However, he said that it is still unclear whether NEEPCO would regulate the power supply (from midnight of March 20) as per NEEPCO’s previous notification.
“Like last time, the NTPC (National Thermal Power Corporation of India) simply cut it. So, we will wait and see, but from the point of views of the issues and concerns that NEEPCO had, we have resolved all those issues. So, we don’t expect it (load shedding) to happen, but I don’t have the latest report,” Sangma said.
