Tura, Oct 8: As Garo Hills tries to limp back to get a grip on life after a devastating 3-4 days due to exceptionally heavy rainfall that crumbled mountains and flooded fields, roads and rivers, the entire community has come together to support the affected people brave through this period of hardship.
Two local entrepreneurs—Mark Pantora M Sangma, founder of Baghmara Campers, and Gaurab Modak, owner of Biryanis & Rolls, a popular restaurant in Hawakhana, Tura—joined hands to provide much-needed flood relief to affected villages in Garo Hills. Supported by Kimo Vlogs, a popular YouTuber, their initiative reached two flood-stricken villages, Chiganggare and Hajong Basti, in South Garo Hills’ under Gasuapara Block.
With Rs. 21,500 collected in donations, the team provided mattresses, mineral water, rice, dal, sugar, salt, edible oil, and clothing. The journey was fraught with challenges due to landslides, waterlogging, and blocked roads, but relief efforts were successfully carried out over two days.
“We are immensely grateful to everyone who contributed. The support has made a real difference in the lives of those facing distress,” said the organizers.
