Shillong, May 13: Recording the highest number of COVID-19 cases for the day with 591 fresh cases, the Meghalaya government has decided to extend total lockdown in East Khasi Hills District till May 24.
The government had earlier imposed total lockdown on May 5 till May 10, but due to the cases increasing day by day, the government had to extend the lockdown. This is the second time that the government has decided to extend the lockdown in the district.
Concerning the two other areas Tura and Jowai, Meghalaya deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong said that the government has authorised the respective DCs to do the needful. Weekend lockdown had been imposed in other Districts of the state.
A total of 18 deaths were reported, out of which 16 deaths were reported from East Khasi Hills District alone and 1 each from East and West Jaintia Hills. 228 recovered cases was also reported. The total active cases in the state stands at 3,726 out of which 2,121 is from East Khasi Hills and Ri-Bhoi 502 cases.
Tynsong informed that a review meeting was held and discussed in detail about the increasing trend that is happening in the state. Few important decisions were again taken by the Government.
Tynsong said, “The lockdown period which was supposed to end on May 17, at 5 am it will now be extended for another one week. Lockdown will be extended upto May 24, 5 am” said Tynsong.
