Total lockdown in East Khasi Hills extended to June 7

Shillong, May 28: Meghalaya governed has decided to extend the lockdown that is in place in East Khasi Hills District upto 5 AM of June 7, 2021.

However, some relaxations have been made to ensure people can avail essential commodities and services. The Deputy Commissioner (DC) has been entrusted to make these arrangements.

“We have decided that lockdown in East Khasi Hills district will continue up to 5 AM of June 7,” Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong told reporters after a review meeting held on Friday.

The total lockdown currently in place in East Khasi Hills (EKH) District was to expire by 5 AM of May 31, 2021.

Meanwhile, the state government has extended containment measures in the whole of state until further orders. Earlier, these containment measures were in place till May 31, 2021.

The government has authorised all the DCs to impose restrictions in their District depending on the local situation and also SDO civil need to be authorised in their respective jurisdiction.

Activities allowed:

The Deputy Commissioner will ensure that essential commodities will be in place for the different localities in the district according to the requirements.

Home delivery is permitted subject to permission and regulation to be issued by the DC of EKH.

SBI main branch, Laitumkhrah branch and Secretariat branch shall function only limited staff only to finish government business or transaction. All other banks are permitted to open on May 31 and 1 June with limited staff for urgent transactions only and close by 4 PM evening.

All post offices are allowed to open from June 2 – 4 with limited staff.

E-commerce activities and courier service are permitted subject to regulation by the DC.
Hardware stores are permitted to open on need basis with prior permission of the DC.
Political, public, Social and religious gatherings are not permitted including conferences meeting and training.

Entry of tourists from outside shall not be permitted and all tourist spots shall remain closed.

Sports activities are not permitted.

International border trade/exports activities will be allowed but regulation is entrusted to the concerned DC to issue and regulate accordingly.

In-situ construction work for government projects that does not involve movement of labourers are permitted with due intimation and in-situ of private projects and construction works that does not involve movement of labourers are permitted subjected to regulation of DC.

Activities restricted:

All Central government offices other than those already notified by department shall remain closed.

All state government offices other than those notified by the personal department shall remain closed.

Inter-district movement of persons from and into EKH shall be restricted.
Interstate movement of persons shall be restricted but it will not be applicable to the transit vehicles who has to pass through Meghalaya.

Funeral gathering to be restricted to 10 persons with prior permission from DC of EKH.
