Shillong, Nov 22: National People’s Party (NPP) state president Prestone Tynsong on Wednesday informed that the party’s state election committee had already submitted the names of candidates from Shillong and Tura parliamentary seats for the approval of the national president.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Tynsong said, “Most likely within this week, once we get the approval of the national president about the candidature of the proposed names from both the constituencies, then I will get back to you on this.”

He informed that there were not less than 5-6 aspirants from each constituency. Tynsong also refused to disclose the names of the candidates recommended by the committee for approval. He said, “Please don’t insist me on that because it is still confidential. Until and unless the president of the NPP national approves it, I am not allowed to say anything on that.”

Asked on the reason behind the decision not to have a common candidate this time, Tynsong said that it was because there was no such agreement made with any of the coalition partners in the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance-2 government.
