Tura, Dec 17: The Tura edition of ‘Love in a Box movement’ made this Christmas merrier for the children of several villages from Pakwakgre to Chinabat in Garo Hills as they distributed gifts and goodies.
The ‘Love in a Box movement’ was started by friends in Nagaland with a passion to inculcate the importance of reaching out and thinking beyond the classroom walls and cultivating emotional intelligence among the young ones. It is all about instilling in a child love, compassion, and kindness.
The concept allows senders to pack a shoe box with their desired goodies for the children mentioning the age and gender that the box is intended for.
This year, the Tura edition by was led by Binny Sangma and Imtila Jamir along with their friends. They started their journey from Tura and went to Pakwakgre then to Chokagre and ended their journey in Silchotchigre and Chinabat. The selection of the villages was done randomly.
There were more than 600 gifts that they received from people all around Tura, majority of which were from Sherwood school.
This is a voluntary work and doesn’t involve any NGOs or organizations.
On Monday, they will continue to distribute the gifts to the children in an orphanage.
