Madrassa linked to terror suspects bulldozed in Assam

Must read

Guwahati, Aug 30: A private Madrassa at Dhakali para in Barpeta district was on Monday demolished by the district administration after the government claimed it to have been built illegally on government land.

The Madrassa is linked to two persons arrested by cops in Barpeta with alleged connections to the Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) backed Jihadi modules that Assam police have been investigating.

Two brothers – Akbar Ali and Abdul Kalam Azad – privately built the Madrassa named ‘Jamiul Huda Academy Madrassa’, which police claims to have been built illegally on a government land. The two brothers were arrested by Barpeta police on Saturday.

Police claimed that they were absconding since March and were key elements of the Barpeta module who provided transport and logistic support to the Bangladeshi operatives, who are said to be absconding. They allegedly provided them with car(s) for movement in the lower Assam region. A car has also been seized, police sources added.

Police sources further stated that the demolished Madrassa was also used by Bangladeshi national Mohammad Sumon, who was arrested before. He is one of the key masterminds behind the AQIS-backed sleeper cell modules in Assam and was a member of the banned Ansarullah Bangla Team or ABT, a banned radical terror group from Bangladesh.

Sumon had taken the guise of a Madrassa teacher and stayed at that Madrassa, police sources added.
