Maintenance, not load shedding: Power Minister clarifies on power cuts on Saturdays in Shillong

Shillong, Dec 19: Residents in several parts of Shillong are likely to experience power disruptions on Saturdays due to ongoing maintenance work, Power Minister A.T. Mondal has confirmed.

Addressing the media, Mondal clarified, “This is not load shedding. The power disruption in certain areas is due to maintenance work. During this dry season, we get an opportunity to ensure that our system is in order. Wherever changes or upgrades are needed, we undertake them at this time.”

He further stated, “From now on, you’ll notice power disruptions, especially on Saturdays, as we carry out essential repair work. Substations are facing some overloading issues, and we are working to address them. But let me reiterate, this is not load shedding.”

The minister assured that adequate measures have been taken to avoid power shortages during the festive season. “We have worked in such a way that there will be no shortage during Christmas and New Year. Additionally, we are ensuring that students do not face any issues during their exam periods,” he said.

Mondal also highlighted that disruptions might occur due to unforeseen issues like transformer failures, conductor problems, or tree falls. “As of now, we are well-positioned in terms of energy availability in the state,” he concluded.
