Shillong, Aug 30: The All India Trinamool Congress (AITC, also referred to as TMC) high command has cleared the name of Sadhiarani M. Sangma to be the party’s candidate for the upcoming bye-election to Gambegre bye-poll.
Sadhiarani M. Sangma is the lone MDC in the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC), representing Dengnakpara constituency. She is the wife of former Rangsakona legislator Zenith M Sangma.
In a press statement shared on Friday, AITC said its Chairperson Mamata Banerjee has approved the name of Sadhiarani M. Sangma to be party candidate for Gambegre bye-poll.
The bye-election is necessitated following the resignation of Congress leader Saleng A Sangma after he was elected as Tura MP earlier this year.
