Man-Animal conflict , 62 year old woman trampled to death by wild elephant in Tamulpur

Guwahati, Jan 31: A 62-year-old woman was trampled to death by a wild elephant in Daorizer village near the Indo-Bhutan border in Assam’s Tamulpur district on Friday.

The deceased has been identified as Taramani Barman.

According to reports, the incident occurred at last night when the elephant broke through the wall of her house while she was sleeping.

Local residents said Taramani Barman’s husband, Punil Barman was also victim to a similar attack around nine years ago.

Following the tragic incident, Tamulpur forest department officials have rushed to the spot and sent the body for postmortem.

This attack comes just days after another incident in Tamulpur’s Harinchra village, where a wild elephant damaged a house, leaving a woman critically injured. She is currently undergoing treatment in a hospital.

The rising cases of human – elephant conflict has raised concern for the people living in the vicinity of the forest. In most of the times, they are the worst suffers after elephant damaged their houses.

“The elephants are entering human habitation in search of foods. Most of the times the encounter turned into worst scenario. We are taking all types of measures to control the rising cases of man-elephant conflict,” said a forest official.

Similarly, a 46-year-old was trampled to death by a wild elephant in Jyotinagar area of Assam’s Goalpara district on Wednesday morning.

The person, identified as Prakash Sen, was a resident of Balukdubi village and had gone to his farmland in the early hours of the day when the wild elephant attacked him.
