TURA, Jan 14: A man has been detained by West Garo Hills police for having unaccounted cash amounting to Rs 2 Lakh inside his vehicle that was stopped for checking as part of pre poll security arrangements in the West Garo Hills district.

According to the district police, a naka or vehicle checking was conducted at Phutamati junction in Tikrikilla region by a team of police from Tikrikilla police station and personnel of the 100 Bn BSF, F Company, on Saturday.

During the checking of vehicles police seized a sum of Rs. 2 Lakh cash from one Soyadur Rahman, S/o Janab Ali, R/o Goladigli, PO – Moulakandi, under Phulbari police station jurisdiction in the plainbelt region of West Garo Hills.

Since the man was unable to provide any paper trail he has been detained along with the vehicle and a verification process is underway to ascertain the source of income, informed district police.
