Imphal, Feb 21: Manipur government has asked for a probe by the medical expert team to find out the reasons of death of a 48 year old Anganwadi worker on Friday, after being administered Covishield vaccine a week back. Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh revealed that the state government has taken a serious note of the allegations from the family members that there was ‘medical negligence’ that reslted in the death. Post morterm has been carried out and the state police has registerd a suo-moto case, state officials have added.
The family members of the Anganwadi workers who died, has met the chief minister on Saturday and alleged that the deceased had informed the medical team administering the vaccine that she has history of acute ashtma and allegies , but the medical team allegedly overlooked this issue and administered the vaccine .
According to offical sources, 48 year old Anganwadi worker Wahengbam Ningol Naorem Ongbi Sundari alias Chaoba who used to work at the Kumbi Tera kha Anganwadi Centre (B) , of Kumbi in Bishnupur district of manipur , 60 KM away from state capital Imphal. As a frontline worker , he was administred her first vaccine dose on 12th February at the at Public Health Centre, Kumbi in Bishnupur.
According to offical sources , From the 13th February , she started suffering from allergies and fever. However, she did not go to any hospital for check up and took medicine brought from a pharmacy. On 16th February her family members got her admitted to CHC Moirang and was shifted to PHC, Kumbi the next day.As her conditionn worsen , she was again admitted to CHC Moirang instead as she was under critical conditions, where she expired.
Alleging the negligence on the part of the doctor, locals held a public meeting at Kumbi Lai Sandhong, demanding action against those responsible for her death. Her mortal remains have been kept at RIMS mortuary, pending autopsy.
“ We have asked for a probe to acertains that if there is medical negligence . We have assured suitable compensation duly considering post morterm reports and have instructed for taking strong actiosn against defaulting officials based on the report of the medical experts” Chief Minister N Biren Singh further added.
