Manipur: Fresh violence erupts in Imphal; violent mob set abandoned house ablaze

Imphal, June 16: Hours after Union Minister RK Ranjan Singh’s house was set on fire on Thursday night by miscreants, now tension continues to grip Manipur’s Imphal East.

Fresh violence have erupted at the western side of Palace Compound after unknown miscreants set abandoned house on fire which is located adjacent to the new building of Advance Hospital on Friday afternoon.

According to reports, there were no reports of injuries or casualties during the fire asno one was present in the house.

After the timely arrival of Manipur Fire Services personnel the fire was controlled and prevented it from spreading to the neighbouring houses and hospital which is still occupied.

To disperse the crowd, a joint team of state and central forces resorted to firing gas shells, following which the irate mob retaliated with stones and catapult in return.

Reports said that some people have sustained injuries following which they were rushed to the Advance Hospital for treatment.

The situation was brought under control by the security forces after some minutes of commotion.
