Imphal, May 17: The Kuki Inpi Manipur, the apex body of Kuki tribes, accused the N. Biren Singh-led Manipur government of plotting a reckless bid to infiltrate Myanmar-based PLA militants into the state.
The KIM urged the Central government to address the issue immediately, warning that it could threaten regional and national security and stability.
“The Myanmar-based Meitei PLA militant group, notorious for their ruthless attacks that have claimed the lives of hundreds of Indian armed forces personnel, as well as engaging in the molestation and rape of women, extortion, forceful collection of taxes from civilians, and grave violations of Human Rights, pose an imminent threat to regional security and stability,” a statement of KIM stated.
It further stated, “It is also crucial to recall past incidents of violence, such as the devastating ambush on November 13, 2021, where Colonel Viplav Tripathi, his wife, their nine-year-old son, and four paramilitary force jawans were brutally killed, and the ruthless attack on the 6th Dogra Regiment that claimed the lives of 20 security force personnel in Chandel district in 2015, among others,”.
“This ill-advised manoeuvre to infiltrate PLA cadres into Manipur will worsen the current law and order situation in the region, putting the lives of innocent civilians at risk. Additionally, it poses a serious threat to the safety and security of the Kuki people amid the ongoing ethnic persecution by the Manipur state government against the Kukis”, KIM stated.
Subsequently, the Kuki Inpi also called on the central government to immediately intervene and halt the alleged ill-conceived plan by the N. Biren Singh-led Manipur state government and its incompetent security officials, whose primary aim appears to be the further aggression against the Kuki people and addresses the underlying issues including the ongoing persecution of the Kuki people.
