Imphal, April 19: Manipur Police have issued a directive requiring all arms license holders and arms dealers in Kangpokpi district to submit self-attested copies of their licenses along with a filled prescribed format to their nearest local police station by April 25, 2025, for verification.
The directive follows an order dated March 25, 2025, from the Commissioner (Home), Government of Manipur, and is in compliance with the Supreme Court’s direction in SLP (Cril) No. 12831 of 2022.

“Non-compliance may lead to license penalization and cancellation,” the official order warned.
The order also urged local authorities to ensure that gun license holders in their respective villages are informed and comply with the verification process.
This move comes in the wake of intensified security operations in the state since the imposition of President’s Rule. On February 20, 2025, Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla appealed for the surrender of all looted arms and ammunition. By March 6, nearly 1,000 weapons, including sophisticated firearms and large quantities of ammunition, had been surrendered.
