Imphal, Nov 16: The Manipur government has handed over three high-profile cases of recent violence in the Jiribam district to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), following directives from the Union Home Ministry. The move aims to ensure a thorough investigation into incidents that have sparked widespread concern.
The NIA has registered the cases under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Arms Act, and Section 20 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UA(P) Act). In compliance with the investigation process, the Special Court NIA Manipur has directed the Jiribam and Borobekra police stations to transfer all relevant documents, materials, and exhibits to the NIA.
The first case pertains to the murder and burning of a Hmar woman in her residence at Jairolpokpi (Zairawn) on November 7 at around 9 PM. The victim was killed by unidentified armed assailants in what authorities describe as a brutal and deliberate act.
Two additional cases relate to violence on November 11 in the Jakuradhor Karong area. In the first incident, unidentified armed miscreants opened fire on the Borobekra police station and nearby residential houses, causing chaos and fear among residents.
The second case from the same day involves a coordinated attack on a CRPF post and Borobekra police station. A CRPF constable was injured in the firefight, and security forces responded with force, neutralizing ten militants during the encounter.
