Manipur Violence: Army jawan injured in unprovoked firing in Imphal West

Imphal, June 19: An Indian Army soldier was injured in a firing incident in Manipur’s Imphal West.

According to reports, the firing took place at Chingmang village during the intervening night of Sunday-Monday.

“Army Columns resorted to controlled retaliatory fire keeping in view presence of villagers in the area. One Army Soldier sustained Gun Shot Wound, evacuated to Military Hospital Leimakhong and is stable,” Spear Corps said in a statement.

This incident comes a day after Indian Army conducted a flag march in Manipur’s violence-affected area in Imphal Valley. Also, authorities decided to relax the curfew on Sunday from 5 am to 5 pm.

The District Magistrate of Imphal East, Khumanthem Diana Devi issued a circular in which she specified the areas where the curfew will be relaxed. The decision was taken for the general public of Imphal East district to be able to purchase essential items such as food and medicines.

Meanwhile, curfew has been imposed in the violence-hit Manipur under section 144 following the clashes that broke out between two communities Kuki and Meitei on May 3.
